During early voting, voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county, and voters needing to register may same-day register and vote. This is different from Election Day, where registered voters must vote only at their assigned polling place and are not allowed to register on Election Day.
The Early Voting period for the 2022 General Election begins Thursday, October 20, 2022, and ends on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
Registered voters or eligible individuals in North Carolina may cast an absentee ballot in person during this time. This period is sometimes called “one-stop early voting.”

SAME DAY REGISTRATION
At an early voting site, Individuals who are not registered to vote in a county may register and immediately vote at that same site. This process is called “same-day registration.”
You may update your name or address within the same county if necessary.

Follow the simple directions below and verify that you are a registered voter in NC. If you haven’t voted in over 8 years in North Carolina, you may have been automatically removed from the voter registration rolls, and you will need to re-register. Even if you vote regularly, double-check that you are officially registered.
Are you registered to vote? Have you recently moved to NC or inside NC? Have you not voted in the last eight years?
Check your voter registration status by entering your information into the Voter Search, also known as the “voter lookup.”
You will need to submit your first and last name.
To narrow your search results, you can add more information, such as your year of birth or county, but that is optional.
If you haven’t voted in over 8 years in North Carolina, you may have been automatically removed from the voter registration rolls, and you will need to re-register.
If you need to register to vote or update your address in your voter file, you can do so by 2 ways in NC:
- Online or in person at the DMV
- Use N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) services. Existing DMV customers may submit a voter registration application online.
- By Mail
- Fill out the English N.C. Voter Registration Application (fillable PDF) or the Spanish N.C. Voter Registration Application (fillable PDF), and submit it by mail or in person to our local Board of Elections.

The voter registration deadline is October 14, 2022, for general elections taking place on November 8, 2022. (After October 14, 2022, only same-day registration during one-stop early voting is available.)
